Sampling Accessories: Sorbent Tubes for Evolved Gas Collection
The Evolved Gas Collection (EGC)™ system from Markes International is a derivative of the UNITY single tube thermal desorber. When UNITY is combined with the specialised accessories listed below it be used to collect and thermally desorb gases evolved from either a thermogravimetric analyser (TGA) and/or from pyrolysis Micro thermal analysis (µTA) experiments.
As samples decompose, evolved gases from TGA are pumped onto specially designed MacroTubes™ using a suitable air sampling pump.
Evolved gases from µTA experiments are pumped onto specially designed MicroTubes™. A suitable, low-flow pump, such as the FLEC pump is required in 
this case.
Both types of tube are packed with sorbents and analysed by thermal desorption with GC or GC/MS.
Evolved gas analysis is used for a range of applications including studies of degradation mechanisms (for stabilisers; flame retardents; smoke suppressants etc.); polymer characterisation; toxicity studies; catalyst investigations and solid/gas phase reaction studies.
