Screening of contaminated land
The VOC-Mole is used to screen for volatile and semi-volatile organics in contaminated land. It easily pinpoints underground leaks or surface spills and cost effectively tracks pollution flow.
VOC-Moles may be arranged in a grid pattern over the site of interest. Organic pollutants migrate into the probe to be collected on sorbent tubes inside. Subsequent analysis is by thermal desorption-GC. A profile of pollution levels over a large site can then be built up.
Other VOC-Mole applications
Other applications include monitoring along the length of underground fuel pipes or checking for contamination around the perimeter of landfill sites, petroleum retail outlets etc. VOC-Moles are also suitable for long-term monitoring of remediated (“brownfield”) sites.
Constructed of stainless steel, the soil probes can be left in situ semi-permanently with vapour samples collected onto sorbent tubes, quarterly, 6-monthly, or at whatever frequency is demanded by the application.
Variants of the VOC-Mole are available for monitoring contaminants in marshy or water-logged ground.
