Role Title: Product Specialist – Thermal Desorption

Reports to: Product Manager – Thermal Desorption

Location: Llantrisant, UK

ROLE DESCRIPTION

In this role you will work as part of the Product Development team evaluating & testing applications and new products.

OBJECTIVES

  • To develop exceptional hands-on and theoretical knowledge of Markes’ Thermal Desorption (TD) instruments with Gas Chromatography (GC) and/or Mass Spectrometer (MS)
  • To fully develop new applications for Markes TD technologies including sample handling, complete method specification and validation etc.
  • To write a variety of reports and application documentation following method development work from concise “Application Briefing Notes” to fully referenced papers for peer-review journals
  • To test and evaluate development instruments and software.
  • To record and present results from development testing.
  • To contribute to the development of product specifications.
  • Provide technical support to production, marketing, sales and service.
  • Continuously develop and maintain knowledge of competitor’s products and applications that are relevant to projects in development.

Although the role is based at our Llantrisant headquarters, there may be a requirement for occasional travel (primarily overseas) to customer sites and Markes subsidiary offices.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS

The successful candidate will

  • Have a degree or higher degree (or equivalent) in a physical science
  • Have a solid theoretical understanding of chromatography; hands on experience of GC (or HPLC) and Mass Spectrometry is essential
  • Have a proven logical approach to problem solving and a meticulous attention to detail
  • Demonstrate the ability to analyse complex systems or processes and explain them clearly and concisely
  • Be articulate in both written and verbal communications with excellent presentation skills
  • Be able to follow procedures but also be capable of “thinking on your feet” and exhibiting proactive behaviour

Role Title: Buyer

Reports to: Purchasing Manager

Location: Llantrisant, UK

ROLE DESCRIPTION

The Buyer will be responsible for working within the Markes International Supply Chain team to manage the end to end supply of materials to ensure the best price and delivery schedule.

RESPONSIBILITES

Supplier Relationships

  • Develop long term supplier relationships with existing & new suppliers
  • Negotiate contract terms, price, lead times & delivery schedules
  • Manage supplier order books including expediting supplies & deliveries when required
  • Be confident in sourcing and transitioning to new suppliers
  • Manage suppliers' performance, ensuring metrics are maintained and corrective actions are carried out; manage supplier non-conformances as they arise
  • Where applicable audit company owned stock-holdings at sub-contractors and other suppliers

Systems & Processes

  • Become completely proficient in using the company ERP system – SAP Business 1
  • Ensure the systems are fully populated to allow purchasing of materials to be managed via MRP
  • Place purchase orders with suppliers using SAP
  • Management of purchase or invoice discrepancies
  • Involvement in team functions i.e. Purchase Requisition process for non-production purchasing

Teamwork & Collaboration

  • Work closely with all other departments i.e. finance; engineering; quality; fulfilment to ensure the correct materials are on hand for all requirements
  • Work with multidisciplinary teams on new product projects as required, ensure all project documentation is completed

Although the role is based at our Llantrisant headquarters there may be a small amount of travel required to suppliers’ sites both in the UK and abroad

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS

The successful candidate will be self-motivated and be comfortable working independently. They will be methodical and organised and thrive in a busy & fast-moving environment. The candidate will:

  • Have experience of negotiation, cost management & supplier management
  • Have experience in dealing with raw material and component suppliers, ideally gained within the manufacturing sector
  • Experience in purchasing Sheet Metal parts would be an advantage
  • Have experience of working with an MRP system to manage procurement and inventory – experience of SAP Business One would be a clear advantage
  • Be able to prioritise work to meet tight deadlines particularly in a highly changeable environment
  • Be self-motivated with the confidence to find their own solutions and to close out problems.
  • Have a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office packages, particularly Excel.

Role Title: Technical Sales Specialist

Reports to: Manager, Technical Sales Group

Location: Llantrisant, UK

ROLE DESCRIPTION

This is a pro-active commercial sales position with the objective of growing sales of Markes TD consumables products & accessories globally in addition to supporting and coordinating the activities of our established and growing distribution network.

OBJECTIVES

Create new business opportunities through outbound lead generation via

  • Phone calls to contacts identified through specific marketing campaigns or via interrogation of CRM database against specific criteria
  • Follow up phone calls to our existing customer base to inform them of new products or applications
  • Regular & direct contact (phone & email) with distributors and channel partners to ensure they are up to date with new products/applications

Respond to all inbound sales enquiries via phone, email, web chat, etc., within 1 working day

  • ensure each inbound enquiry is correctly logged in the CRM system
  • follow up on response where applicable
  • Maintain the Opportunity record within the CRM

Produce quotations & proposals

  • for your own customer contacts and for the direct sales team as required
  • liaise with appropriate technical and commercial support personnel to ensure all relevant information is incorporated including any additional documentation required by the customer
  • follow up each quotation & log activity in CRM system
  • Ulitlise appropriate add-on marketing techniques to generate further leads through optional items on quotations; offering volume promotions where applicable; promoting service or training offerings

Provide exemplary pre- and post-sales customer service to our customer base including:

  • Technical & Applications support to our Users & Distributors
  • Online sales presentations / webinars etc.
  • Commercial support with respect to pricing; lead times; delivery dates, etc.

Work directly with the Global Channels Managers (APAC, Europe, IME)

  • to support their distribution network
  • to take direct responsibility for particular distributors and build & manage those relationships in order to further develop them

Carry out selected sales administrative work to assist in the sales process

  • New Customer Forms
  • Technical review of orders against quotation etc.
  • Liaison between customers & factory regarding delivery schedules, etc.

Provide weekly activity reports to the Technical Sales Manager and other Managers (e.g. Marcom) as appropriate, utilise the output of these reports to focus future activities.

It is expected that at least 40% of your time will be spent in direct telephone contact with customers.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS

  • A degree or higher level diploma in Chemistry or other relevant scientific subject
  • Excellent communication skills both written & verbal with the ability to extract all relevant details from written documentation
  • Self-motivation, enthusiasm and inquisitiveness
  • A confident telephone manner with good listening skills
  • Self-confidence & be meticulous, detail orientated & organised.
  • High levels of computer literacy with extensive Microsoft Office experience
  • Familiarity with ERP & CRM software e.g. SAP Business One, Salesforce, would be advantageous
  • Experience in a sales/telesales environment would be beneficial
