Role Title: Business Development Manager: Air Monitoring

Reports to: Global Sector Marketing Manager

Location: Llantrisant, UK

ROLE DESCRIPTION

In this role you will be responsible for optimising worldwide business growth for Markes’ leading range of analytical thermal desorption instrumentation and associated air / gas sampling accessories to the rapidly expanding global air monitoring markets.

Key sectors include: ambient air monitoring, industrial emissions testing, fenceline monitoring, landfill gas analysis, atmospheric research, industrial / occupational hygiene, biogenic emissions monitoring, soil gas & vapour intrusion, indoor air quality & indoor ventilation studies.

The role is based at our UK headquarters and will involve extensive worldwide travel.

OBJECTIVES

Your primary objective will be to identify, quantify & prioritise target market opportunities across the relevant market sectors and to drive these opportunities direct to the marketplace through the relevant sales channels.

  • Work alongside the Marketing, Product Development, & Sales teams to develop, continually evaluate and implement a strategy for driving sustainable business growth within the air monitoring market
  • Expand and refine the company’s knowledge of the Air Monitoring market; its analytical needs, key influencers, regulatory developments etc.

Relationship management

  • Actively participate in and co-ordinate the company’s strategic collaborations with influential committees in key standardisation organisations such as ASTM, ISO, EN, US EPA, China EPA, etc., making them aware of recent technical developments in the field & discerning new customer & application requirements in return
  • Provide the main point of contact within Markes for influential government regulatory agencies within the US, Europe, China & other important geographies
  • Identify and build relationships with key opinion leaders in the target geographies & sectors and support technical collaborations to improve, refine and evaluate the equipment / methods used
  • Build relationships with the relevant sales & distribution channels, equipping & training them to support the market sector and monitoring their performance

Market management

  • Monitor the market sector to evaluate customer needs; trends in customer activity/enquiries; and competitive activity/strengths/weaknesses
  • Identify & prioritise new market opportunities for novel applications, methodology, and innovative products taking into account the company’s current business strengths, existing activities / priorities and the level of resource investment anticipated. Project manage related New Product or application development processes where appropriate.

Marketing Communications & Sales

  • Work with marketing/marcom colleagues to plan, produce, and deliver targeted marketing campaigns (globally or regionally as required) including initiating & contributing to: email campaigns; application & technical support materials; presentation materials for sales training; webinars, seminars, conferences; web & social media materials
  • Monitoring business performance via sales numbers and market analysis. Together with other team members, monitor Markes’ and competitor’s TD market share in the key market segments.

  • Have a degree or higher degree in a physical science
  • Have proven sales & business development skills preferably in an International environment
  • Have an authoritative presence – be able to command the respect of highly influential and knowledgeable customers; experienced sales people & senior colleagues – to have experience of the regulatory & analytical environment that these key customers are working in.
  • Must be fluent in spoken & written English but fluency in a second language (Chinese; Spanish; German; other European language) would be an advantage
  • Be articulate in both written and verbal communications
  • Experience of presenting at international scientific symposia would be beneficial
  • Be proactive and a team player
  • Extensive hands-on experience of complex GC–MS laboratory work would be a major advantage

Role Title: Business Development Specialist: Materials

Reports to: Global Sector Marketing Manager

Location: Llantrisant, UK

ROLE DESCRIPTION

In this role you will be responsible for supporting and driving worldwide business growth for Markes’ products within the fields of chemical release from products & associated consumer concerns. Example business sectors include: construction and decorative products, in-vehicle air quality, air purity during semi-conductor fabrication, toy safety, furniture labeling and spray applied polyurethane foam. The role is based at our UK headquarters and will involve extensive worldwide travel.

OBJECTIVES

  • To work alongside the Marketing, Product Development, and Sales teams to contribute to the company’s strategy for driving Markes’ business in these markets and to deliver & monitor that strategy.
  • Expand and refine the company’s knowledge of the Product Acceptance/Consumer Safety market; its analytical needs and influencers.

Relationship management

  • Key account management of strategic customers within these markets i.e. Product testing laboratories; manufacturers; government agencies; research laboratories
  • Build relationships with key opinion leaders across this field and support technical collaborations of relevant new products and applications.
  • Build relationships with the relevant sales & distribution channels, equipping & training them to support the market sector and monitoring their performance
  • Contribute to the company’s strategic collaborations with relevant standards agencies like ISO, US EPA, CEN, Chinese EPA, ASTM, UN, etc.

Market management

  • Monitor the market sector to evaluate customer needs; trends in customer activity/enquiries; and competitive activity/strengths/weaknesses
  • Identify new market opportunities for novel applications, methodology, and innovative products & drive their consideration by colleagues. Actively participate in the New Product process – through all phases – championing the business needs of your market

Role Title: R&D Instrumentation Scientist

Reports to: Senior Product Specialist

Location: Llantrisant, UK

ROLE DESCRIPTION

This role involves the development of innovative products designed to meet the challenges of sampling trace level compounds (from gases, liquids, and solids) and introducing them into analytical systems for detection and identification.

OBJECTIVES

  • You will work closely alongside colleagues from the engineering and marketing teams to specify, design and develop new instrumentation, software, and technologies to fulfil customer, regulatory, and application requirements.
  • Specifying and testing new software functions and features
  • Planning, running, and assessing experimental protocols to evaluate instrument performance for new and challenging applications
  • Presentation of reports – both written and oral – detailing your findings, giving feedback to engineers/software developers/customers, and recommending the next steps in the process.
  • Transfer of new products from development into production, liaison with production engineers and final test departments.
  • Supporting the launch of new products into the market place, liaison with sales & customer support

Although the role is primarily laboratory based at our Llantrisant headquarters, travel (including overseas) to customer sites and Markes subsidiary offices may be occasionally required.

  • Have a degree or higher degree in a physical science
  • Have a solid theoretical understanding of chromatography, hands-on experience of GC, HPLC, and Mass Spectrometry is desirable

  • Experience of assembling/disassembling analytical instruments or electro-mechanical systems is desirable – this could be through direct experience or a hobby

Role Title: Electronics & Firmware Engineer

Reports to: Engineering Manager
Location: Llantrisant, UK

ROLE DESCRIPTION

This role involves the design, development and validation of electronic components & firmware for our range of high-tech, innovative analytical instrumentation .

OBJECTIVES

  • Design, develop & debugging of new and existing electronic assemblies to be incorporated within the company’s products ensuring full compliance with relevant national & international standards.
  • Use a range of firmware development tools (i.e. debugging & emulation tools; bug tracking; version control etc.) to develop, control & document firmware for electronic products
  • Proactive in the NPI process in the creation of technical specifications for electronics/firmware developments and where applicable; project planning; budgeting etc.
  • Use schematic entry & PCB layout tools to design and test circuit boards for prototypes and production
  • Design, build and verify the operation of test equipment for electronic products to allow testing of electronic assemblies and systems
  • Liaise with purchasing team and suppliers to source current and future product materials & parts; involvement in evaluation of potential suppliers for capability, processes & quality standards
  • Liaise with, and direct, sub-contractors for the production of circuit boards and other services
  • Liaise with test houses to ensure compliance with EMC and safety standards
  • Develop PC software for internal testing of hardware and firmware designs using a range of firmware & software test methods to ensure high quality code
  • Creation and maintenance of bills of material and other documentation relating to electronic products including user manuals; build instructions; technical reports and other documentation as required.
  • Proactive engagement with the company Quality Management System as it relates to electronic products & firmware to include defect investigations; development & implementation of corrective & preventative action plans; control & co-ordination of product change process to improve or correct product or process issues
  • Provide technical support and training to other technical and non-technical groups
  • Keeping up to date with new and evolving developments in technologies & regulations
  • Develop new & existing working practices to improve departmental performance

  • Be experienced in analogue and digital circuit design, layout & optimisation
  • Have demonstrated an in depth understanding of electronic test methodologies; an understanding of design for manufacture; design for test, reliability, cost & quality
