Product Specialist – Thermal Desorption

Reports to: Sales Director & Technical Marketing Director
Location: Llantrisant, UK

ROLE DESCRIPTION

In this role you will work alongside all our sales channels to drive the Thermal Desorption (TD) business within the EMEAI region and ensure product penetration into the designated market application areas.

OBJECTIVES

  • To fully demonstrate and support the use of Thermal Desorption (TD) instruments with Gas Chromatography (GC) and/or Mass Spectrometer (MS).
  • To write clear and concise customer reports and application briefs following demonstrations or sample analysis
  • To qualify customer requirements and demonstrate a solution to meet them
  • To drive and develop the TD business in EMEAI by supporting the direct sales teams & indirect distribution channels as required
  • To be fully conversant with all technical aspects of the Markes’ TD product portfolio and therefore support and assist the sales / distribution channels from identifying leads to closing orders
  • To monitor the sales funnel within your area of responsibility to ensure continued activity
  • To support deployment of the EMEAI marketing plan by implementing appropriate strategies (e.g. delivering high quality verbal or written presentations, supporting conferences etc.)
  • Actively assist in maintaining and expanding our market knowledge to include:
  • Up-to-date knowledge of latest scientific findings
  • Market and technology trends
  • Industry benchmarks & regulations
  • Competitive positioning

Although the role is based at our Llantrisant headquarters, supporting the sales channels will require a high level ( 40%) of travel (primarily overseas) to customer sites and Markes subsidiary offices.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS

The successful candidate will have a strong background in Thermal Desorption with an understanding of Gas Chromatography (GC) and Mass Spectrometry detectors (MS). They will

  • Have a degree or higher degree (or equivalent) preferably in a physical science
  • Have hands on experience with TD and GC(MS)
  • Experience in a sales environment would be beneficial, however enthusiasm and a willingness to learn will be more important
  • Have excellent presentation and communication skills


Purchasing Manager

Reports to: Head of Manufacturing & Engineering
Location: Llantrisant, UK

OBJECTIVES

  • Responsibility for all purchasing within Markes International Ltd. (Approx £5m raw material spend; plus development spend; services etc.)
  • Oversight of non-product Purchasing at subsidiary sites
  • Develop and lead the purchasing team (currently 1 senior buyer & 3 buyers), reviewing performance and identifying training needs
  • Develop & extend supplier relationships, re-evaluating where necessary, developing dual sourcing plans and other processes to ensure the continuity and stability of raw material supply.
  • Work with the Senior Leadership Team to devise and employ broader sourcing strategies taking into consideration company growth (both turnover & geography) and development plans
  • Manage purchasing involvement in the New Product Introduction process
  • Track and report KPIs to monitor supplier performance and quality
  • Assess, manage and mitigate risks regarding supply contracts and agreements
  • Work side-by-side with Production & Logistics Controllers to manage inventory levels appropriately

AUTHORITY

  • Evaluate and audit new suppliers, negotiate terms and agree contract commitments
  • Identify and justify the resources necessary to deliver departmental goals
  • Identify, recommend and implement contingencies to ensure continuity, stability and cost of raw materials
  • Negotiate service contracts with utilities and similar service providers

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS

  • Purchasing experience gained within a manufacturing environment, ideally with
    • complex mix of high-tech products
    • large variety of individual components (5000 raw material parts)
    • low volumes of individual components leading to fragmented supplier base
  • Degree level or CIPS equivalent qualification in Procurement & Supply
  • Expert hands-on knowledge and understanding of ERP systems, including scheduling, stock analysis and flow management, MRP and purchasing. SAP Business One experience would be an advantage
  • Strong leadership skills
  • High attention to detail & proven good data analysis skills to identify trends and problems and propose solutions
  • Good contract negotiation skills


Finance & Commercial Analyst

Reports to: Financial Controller
Location: Llantrisant, UK

ROLE DESCRIPTION

In this role you will utilise business analytics to support the Finance and Commercial team in making sound financial decisions. You will provide timely and high quality management information and assist with ad-hoc projects to ensure that decisions are based on reliable financial information, and delivery of sound project governance.

OBJECTIVES

  • Interrogation and analysis of ERP data (SAP Business 1) utilising relevant analytics
  • Responsibility for the delivery of monthly finance and commercial KPI
  • Support the delivery of the monthly finance (and operations) reporting
  • Ad-hoc duties/analysis as required – to provide support to Financial Controller, Managing Director, Sales Director, and Senior Managers.
  • Support the Financial Controller in pricing and margin analysis, BOM cost control procedures, overhead cost analysis, stock control analysis, and movement reporting
  • Support the Financial Controller during the annual budgeting; monitor performance against budget across costs centres/departments through the year.
  • Provide data and insight to drive operational performance

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS

The successful candidate will be highly analytical with a strong numerical ability. They will have a keen interest in business functions and the interfaces between operations, forward planning, managing finance and taking commercially sound decisions. They will

  • have a degree (or equivalent) in Finance, Maths, Economics, or relevant numerate subject
  • have a high level of ICT competence, being proficient in Microsoft Office packages and with a demonstrable excellence in Excel and data manipulation.
  • have the ability to quickly absorb and apply new information
  • possess excellent communication skills both written and oral – and enjoy working with people across the whole business as part of a team.

In addition

  • experience of financial / commercial modelling would be beneficial as would experience/interest in ERP systems and processes.
  • familiarity with Crystal Report Writing, SQL databases or SQL queries would all be beneficial
  • experience of a manufacturing environment would also be an advantage


Sales Support Specialist

Reports to: Customer Support and Channel Manager - Americas
Location: Sacramento, CA, USA

ROLE DESCRIPTION

In this role, you will work alongside all our customers and sales channels to support and drive sales of the portfolio of analytical instrumentation, consumable items and application solutions within the AFO region.

OBJECTIVES

  • Customer interaction by phone, email, on-line chat etc., to find and progress sales of Markes instrumentation.
  • Serve as liaison between outside sales and customers.
  • Generate quotations upon request.
  • Accurately and diligent updating of sales reporting software programs.
  • Complete bid responses and RFQ’s as needed.
  • Work closely with Markes partners, such as business partners, manufacturer’s reps and distributors to timely provide necessary information.
  • To write clear and concise monthly reports on activities in assigned area.
  • To monitor the sales funnel within your area of responsibility to ensure continued activity

Although the role is based at our Sacramento Centre of Excellence, supporting the sales channels will require some travel ( 20%) (primarily North America) to customer sites, sales channels sites, and Markes subsidiary offices.

  • Have experience of a range of analytical instrumentation, ideally with GC-MS experience and knowledge of liquid and gaseous GC sample introduction techniques (Thermal Desorption, headspace, SPME etc)
  • Experience in a sales environment would be beneficial, however enthusiasm and a willingness to learn will be more important
  • Familiarity with CRM systems and practices
  • Strong phone and verbal communication skills along with active listening
  • Proficient with corporate productivity and web presentation tools
  • Have excellent presentation and communication skills
