Markes sponsors high-flyers at Environmental Forensics conference

Markes had a significant presence at the recent International Network of Environmental Forensics (INEF) conference in Cambridge, UK, with presentations and posters by our TOF MS specialist Dr Laura McGregor, and an exciting booth featuring our BenchTOF-Select model and Select-eV video.
As a sponsor of the event, Markes was also pleased to be involved in the student prize ceremony. Dr McGregor helped judge the presentations delivered by postgraduate students, while our TOF MS Business Unit Manager, Nick Bukowski, presented the cash prizes to the winners at a ceremony on Tuesday 5 August:
- Joint 1st prize: David Megson (Plymouth University, UK) – “Techniques to age date human exposure to PCBs”.
- Joint 1st prize: Luis Ovando-Fuentealba (Universidad Austral de Chile) - “Assessing indoor pollution by PM2.5 in southern Chile”.
- 2nd prize: Stephanie Turnbull (Wolverhampton University, UK) – “Evidence for acid mine drainage in an urban stream in the West Midlands”.
- 3rd prize: Andrea Sanchini (Glasgow University, UK) – “Integrated system to predict and confirm the biodegradation of PAHs in real soil sample using indigenous soil microorganisms”.
