The South Wales Chamber of Commerce has announced that Markes International (Llantrisant) has been selected as a finalist in the 2014 Welsh Business Awards.
The Welsh Business Awards, now in their 13th year, aim to recognise the successes and achievements of Welsh businesses and are sponsored by the University of South Wales for the fifth consecutive year.
Markes has been shortlisted in the ‘International Business – Experienced’ category, which requires demonstration of consistently high performance in global sales over a three-year period. Emphasis is also placed on the level of research undertaken prior to launching within new geographical markets, and ongoing strategies to tackle new challenges.
Competing finalists in the two categories in which Markes has been placed include high-achieving local businesses spanning a range of areas – Concrete Canvas, Invertek Drives and Lumishore.
Markes’ managing director, Alun Cole said “We’re delighted to be finalists in the 2014 Welsh Business Awards, and believe that it is a reflection of the considerable effort that has gone into developing our global sales over a sustained period.”
“Over 85% of the thermal desorption instruments and mass spectrometers we manufacture are exported to 60 countries, reflecting the universal appeal of our technologies. Not only that, but our instruments are used by a large number of globally-recognised companies in a diverse range of markets.”
“We are sure that all these factors have been appreciated by the Welsh Business Award judges, and are very much looking forward to the Awards Ceremony on 26 February”, he said.
Graham Morgan, director of the South Wales Chamber of Commerce, said ”This last year has seen businesses in Wales really step up to the mark in the face of recessionary pressures. They have been forced to explore new markets and develop forward thinking ways of working, and this is directly reflected in the improvements we are seeing in the wider economy.
“These are achievements that deserve to be celebrated , and these awards prove that it is possible to succeed in business in the current climate, as well as recognising those who are making a real difference in the Welsh business world.”
