An article by Caroline Widdowson and David Barden has appeared in the March 2013 issue of the widely-read industry magazine Paint & Coatings Industry. The article highlights the rise of material emissions legislation, and the consequent need for rapid and reliable methods to screen materials and products for hazardous chemicals.
The article goes on to focus on direct desorption and micro-chamber testing, two sampling technologies with which Markes has many years of experience. The advantages of these methods in terms of speed and convenience are explained, and a number of examples given from the field of paints, coatings and other industry-relevant materials.
Widdowson and Barden conclude that micro-chambers and thermal desorption are “a versatile technology for in-house emission sampling from a variety of materials encountered in the coatings industry”, and that they are “valuable for any manufacturer keen to develop low-emission products and pursue new business opportunities in this competitive field.”
