What causes poor chromatogram peak shape when using thermal desorption?

There are a number of causes of poor peak shape in chromatograms when using thermal desorption. These can give rise to quite distinctive symptoms, including:

  • Tailing or broadening of early-eluting peaks.
  • Generally poor peak shape.
  • Broad peaks.
