Markes events round-up

Kathryn PowellGetting out and about to present the latest applications of our TD and TOF MS technologies is all in a day’s work for our team of specialists, and 2014 so far has been busier than ever for us in this regard. Here I focus on just a few of the highlights!

The year kicked off in style with the launch of our much-anticipated Select-eV variable-energy ion-source technology at HTC-13 in January. Held in the beautiful town on Bruges in Belgium, this conference is a big draw for chromatography experts from around the world, and so was an excellent place to showcase this ground-breaking technology.

We got a really big response from the delegates to our main seminar on Select-eV, held in the main auditorium, and also to an auxiliary presentation on its application to the chemical profiling of complex flavour and fragrance mixtures.

Our posters – on Select-eV itself, and on applications to aroma profiling and applications in the food industry – also received a lot of interest, as did our Select-eV video and BenchTOF model.

The next stop was Pittcon at Chicago in March, the must-attend tradeshow for any analytical technology company. As usual, we showcased our equipment with a tried-and-tested mix of scientific posters and on-stand materials, including posters on monitoring siloxanes in biogas, analysing odorous sulfur compounds, advances in tube and sample data tracking, using Select-eV for petrochemical applications, and our ChromCompare software for comparative analysis of GC–MS profiles.

A particular highlight for us was receiving an ‘Honorable Mention’ for Select-eV in the Pittcon Editors’ Awards.

We kept the momentum going in spring with three events in Germany...

  • The first of these was DGMS (the German Society for Mass Spectrometry), where we again used posters and a talk to highlight the principles and applications of Select-eV.

  • Next up was the workshop on Odour and Emissions of Plastic Materials at Kassel, where our microchamber technologies were the focus of attention.

  • We then followed this with the Analytica tradeshow in April, where we showcased a range of instrumentation, and where a highlight was a video interview on Select-eV with our TOF MS sales specialist Bob Green.

Coming hot on the heels of the opening of our Technical Centre in Frankfurt in October last year, these three events were a great way to cement our presence as a major player in the highly competitive German marketplace.

In May we attended ‘Riva’, aka the 38th ISCC and 11th GC×GC symposia, held in Riva del Garda, Italy. Always a popular event amongst GC and GC×GC specialists, our posters on applications of our Select-eV technology once again attracted attention, as did the seminar on Select-eV jointly presented by our own TOF specialist Laura McGregor and Luca Calamai from the Centre of Mass Spectrometry at the University of Florence.

And finally... just recently we’ve been busy in the US, where we attended the Environmental Trade Fair and Conference (EFTC) in Texas and the annual ASMS conference in Baltimore. ASMS, as a conference focused on innovations in mass spectrometry, was a perfect place for us to reiterate our message on Select-eV, with the help of our BenchTOF model, and reach an even wider audience.

Our TD and TOF MS specialists are always planning new events to attend – so check our Events listing and see if we’re coming to a venue near you!
