Our Queen’s Award for Enterprise – A crowning glory!

We did it! Six months after submitting our application, everyone at Markes is delighted with the news that we have won a Queen’s Award for Enterprise.
You can read our news release here, but to summarise we are one of the few UK companies this year to have received a much-coveted “Outstanding achievement” Award for International Trade. The story has been picked up by Wales Online, Insider News, Select Science and the Financial Times.
This follows hot on the heels of two awards for our Select-eV technology – an Innovation Award from The Analytical Scientist, and a Canmol: Wales Marketing Award.
Now we’ve risen to even greater heights with our Queen’s Award. To achieve this, in the words of the application form, we had to demonstrate “substantial growth in overseas earnings and in commercial success, sustained over not less than three years, to levels which are outstanding for the goods or services concerned and for the size of the entrant’s operations.”
This is obviously fantastic news for us as a company, recognising as it does the vast amount of effort that has gone into getting our name known across the world – and in achieving exports of over 85% in the process.
It’s also very satisfying for all of us on a personal level – and especially for our Managing Directors Alun Cole and Elizabeth Woolfenden, who have built the company up over the past 18 years. I'm also pretty pleased myself (after all, someone had to compile the 4500 words needed to complete the application form…).
In conclusion, it’s a great result, and one we’re all very proud of. Look out for our Queen’s Award emblem on our website and company literature over the coming months!
